Information: CRASH, BURIAL AT MOSS CHAPEL - N. M. ""Cobb"" Bowles, 72-year-old resident of Miami, Florida, formerly of Jackson county, died last Thursday from injuries received in a motorcycle accident according to information that arrived here early this week. Details of the tragedy that claimed the life of the aged man had not been learned by relatives here Tuesday. Mrs. Oak Kessel, of Given, a sister, said that the wire telling of his death said that the fatal injuries had been sustained in a motorcycle accident. Mr. Bowles, who was born and lived the early part of his life in the Jim Ridge section of Parchment, had resided in Florida for the last twelve years. Relatives here said that for some time he had been operating a filling station near Miami as well as an orange grove and truck farm. He was a son of James and Lucetta Bowles and is survived by three children and several brothers and sisters. The body arrived at Dunbar Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at Moss Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was made at the cemetery there. [March 15, 1940] Nathan Mason Bowles was born in Jackson county, near Moss Chapel church, November 16, 1867, departed this life March 7, 1940, near Miami, Florida, age 72 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was the son of James W. and Lieucetta (Casto) Bowles. He resided near his birthplace until 1906 and then moved to Charleston, where he lived until 1925. Since then he has resided at Miami, Florida, when death came very suddenly. Father, mother, two sisters, three brothers, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Bowles McCallister, and one son, Claudie, preceded him in death several years ago. Those left to mourn his loss are two sons, Tracy and Paul Bowles, of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Kessel of Given, and Miss Mary Bowles, of Charleston; three brothers, C. O. Bowles of Dunbar, L. T. Bowles of Given and L. P. Bowles of Liberty; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. [March 29, 1940] [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
