Information: Richard Cornelius Vail, son of J. R. and Anna Vail, born January 10, 1886 in Ripley, W.Va, departed this life in Roane County Hospital Sept. 17, 1916 aged 30 years, 8 mos. and 7 days.  Service at Epwroth Church and burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.   (From handwritten obiturary--Ada Ruth Sayre Collection)   Robert Cornelius Vail, son of J. R. and Anna Vail, was born January 10th 1886 in Ripley, W. Va. and departed this life from the Roane County Hospital in Spencer, September 17th, 1916, aged 30 years 8 months and 7 days.  He joined the Epworth M. E. Church, South, on the 28th of January, 1906 under the pastorate of Rev. R. A. Winn and lived a faithful and consistent Christian until the end of his earthly existence.  It was my happy privilege to have known him personally for nine years, having been his pastor for four years and met him frequently through the five years since my pastorate ended, and through all these years I found him to be a true, loyal christian young man, loyal to his church, and to his pastor, no matter who he was.  We buried him with christian honors from the Epworth Church, and tendely laid his body to rest in in the beautiful Pine Hill Cemetery, overlooking the beautiful valley below to await the trumpet's sound when it will arise to meet the Lord in the air to be forever with Him.      The funeral was attended by a large concourse of people, which was expressive of the high esteem in which he was held.  The floral offering made by his church and friends was beautiful, literally covering and surrounding the beautiful casket which contained his body.  The beauty and lavishness of those flowers were emblematic of the beauty and fulness of that life which he had lived, and their fragrance emblemized the fragrance of a young life so devoted to his Lord.  May the richest blessings of heaven rest upon the sorrowing parents, brother and friends, and may we all so richly adorn our lives with good works that we may meet in heaven at last.  H. T. Watts
