Information: JAMES H. TAYLOR CALLED BY DEATH - James H. Taylor passed away at his home in West Ripley last Friday after an illness of several weeks duration with cancer. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. W. Ware at the home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and burial was made in the Pine Hill cemetery Monday. James Hemphill Taylor, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Taylor, was born in Bath County, Virginia, June 16, 1851, died at Ripley, W. Va., April 9, 1926, aged 74 years, 9 months and 23 days. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Mollie Taylor, who has always made her home with him, Mrs. J. M. Lewis, who resides on Parchment, W. Va., and one brother, J. W. Taylor, of St. Louis, Missouri. One sister, Mrs. B. F. Riley, and three brothers, Charles, William and Joseph, have preceded him to the grave. When he was a small boy his parents moved to Union, Monroe County, where they lived during the Civil War period. Later his parents moved to Jackson County, W. Va. and located on a farm on the Spencer Pike near Ripley. In early life he learned the trade of plasterer and continued to work in Monroe County at this trade for several years after his parents moved to Jackson County. In 1876 he came to Jackson County and made his home with his parents until their death. After the death of his parents he and his sister, Mollie, continued to maintain a home on the old home farm until the infirmities of age prevented him from continuing to live on the farm or engage in work at his trade. In 1921 he and his sister moved to Ripley, and after making their home for a short time with their niece Mrs. Madalen Straley, they located in West Ripley where they continued to live until his death. Early in the year he was stricken with a fatal disease against which he made a patient and determined fight, to no avail. Being a person of strong convictions he made warm friends, who could best appreciate his sterling qualities.
