Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1936-11-20

Information: Barbara Ellen Bott, known to her host of friends as ""Aunt Sis"" Bott, died at her home at Lynn Valley on Monday of last week at a time when she was only a little more than a month from her 91st birthday.  She was the last of her family, the husband, Abediah Bott, having died more than a decade ago and twin children also preceded her in death.  She was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Andrick and on April 9, 1865, the day on which General Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox, she was married to Mr. Bott, who had secured a furlough to come home to claim his bride.  That was back in the Old Dominion, where both had been born and reared.  Soon after the close of the Civil War, they migrated to the West and settled at Muses Bottom.  Two years later they moved to the Wiseburg neighborhood in the eastern part of Grant district where they spent the remainder of their lives.  At about the age of 20, she joined the M. E. church, South, and was a faithful and active member until death.  For many years she was a teacher in the Sunday school at Wiseburg and during her long years of service in teaching the class of children, she taught not only them but other generations which followed.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Cora B. Sine, of Edinburg, Virginia, and adopted daughter, Mrs. Ada Kittle, of Lockhart, with whom she made her home.  The funeral services were conducted at the Sheppard's Chapel church on Wednesday with the pastor, Rev. S. D. Harvey, in charge and burial was in the Independence cemetery at Sandyville.   [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
