Information: Mr. Frederick Stone, commonly known as ""Uncle Fred"", died at the home of one of his daughters, Mrs. Lucy Bachtel, at Fairplain, Monday, November 18, 1912, at 12:15 a.m., at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 13 days. Mr. Stone was born on the Elias Stone farm below town, which was then in Mason county, was after divided, and then he became a citizen of Jackson county, of which he remained a resident until death. Mr. Stone was at one time a commissioner of Jackson county for one or more terms, and served his county well. On the 7th of March 1850, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Harpold, and settled on Grass Run 63 years ago. To this union were born seven children--four sons and three daughters, viz: P. M., S. W., C. W. and G. L. Stone, Mrs. Malinda Hogsett, Mrs. Lucy Bachetel, Mrs. Jonah Slaughter. He was a family of seven children, four boys and three girls, of which one survives him, Uncle Elias Stone, who was the youngest of the family and who is now in his 80th year. Uncle Fred Stone became a member of the United Brethren church in Christ fifty-five years ago, also a charter member of the Mt. Moriah church, of which he was ever after a faithful member. He was always loyal to his God and his church, his home was always the home of the preachers, not only those of his own church, but those of other churches. Like many of the old pioneers of his time, he helped to lay the foundation of our county and state, religiously and financially. He was always true to his friends, both in weal and in woe, a kind and devoted husband and good indulgent parent. His good wife, whom we always delighted to call Aunt Lizzie, preceded him to the better world six years ago. (Oct. 30, 1906,aged 72). Uncle Fred was always of a cheerful disposition, always ready for a joke, looking always on the bright side of life, believing in the good that comes from a smile and a kind word to all with whom he came in contact, and will not only be missed by those of his family, to whom he was very dear, but by all who knew him. Uncle Fred has passed out of our lives, but he has gone to join hands with those who have made their election sure and have had their robes washed white in the blood of the Lamb. Our loss will only be his eternal gain, he leaves the foot prints of a life well spent in the service of his Master, his works will follow him. His remains were laid to rest at the Mt. Moriah cemetery amid a large concourse of friends, who crowded the church to get a last view of one who had been so true a friend to them during his life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. H. Rymer, his former pastor, and Rev. T. E. Gainer, his present pastor. ""True is it that Deaths face seems cold and stern, when He is sent to summons those we love"". T. H. Rymer, T. E. Gainer.
