Information: Malinda C. Sterne, age 72 years 8 months and 4 days, was born March 11th, 1846. Was married to John V. Sterne, February 12th, 1864. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom (three girls and one son) preceded her to the tomb. She professed faith in Christ in the Mt. Moriah U. B. Church in a revival conducted by Rev. Harrison, and joined the Methodist church in 1873. She has been a faithful, earnest, careful, patient Christian for 45 years. Her sufferings for the past few months were severe and testing, but she was ever patient and trustful; would often pray to the Lord to take her if in harmony with His will. She was a kind and tender mother, always sharing in every ill and trouble, anxious to hear regularly from each of the children. When one of them would come home, her greatest delight was to cook and care for them as only a mother can do. She was a good neighbor, and friend to all in every way; the poor, the sick, the needy always found a willing helper. We shall miss her, but we shall meet her again some glad day. She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, John Sterne of Mason City, W. Va.; Mrs. W. C. Slaughter, Charleston, Mrs. F. H. Flemming, Parkersburg, W. O. Sterne, Mt. Hope, Mrs. O. D. Kent, Logan, Mrs. Carl H. Sayre, Parkersburg, H. G. Sterne, Beckley, and Mrs. H. K. Stone, Akron, Ohio. The following brothers and sisters: John Harpold, Cottageville, W. W. Harpold, Weeksburg, Ky., Charles Harpold, Rutland, Ohio, Mrs. R. N. Eaton, Parkersburg. She cared for and raised two grandchildren in her home, the same as she did her own children. There are eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. No one can set a definite value upon the worth of such wifely qualities and motherly devotion. The funeral was held Sunday at Evans, preached by Dr. J. T. Foster of Mason City.
