Information: Robert M. Stephens, 72, Dunbar, died Jan. 3, 1988, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  He was a retired Navy gunner officer with 20 years' service.  He was a member of Dunbar Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.  Surviving:  wife, Sybil Whiting Stephens; sons, David A. of Hanover, Mass., and James E. of Houston; five grandchildren.  Service was Tuesday at First Church United Methodist, Dunbar, with the Rev. John R. Campbell officiating.  Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.  Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, was in charge of arrangements.  Mr. Stephens was the son-in-law of Mrs. Ona Whiting of Ripley.
