Information: DEATH CLAIMS AGED WOMAN-FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. ROSALIE STAATS HELD AT EVANS- Funeral services for Mrs. Rosalie Staats, 83 years old, were held from the Evans Methodist Church last Wednesday with Rev. Roy Davis of Cottageville in charge and he was assisted by Rev. W. I. Fiber. The Ripley Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which Mrs. Staats was a member, conducted the ritualistic service. Interment was in the Otterbein Cemetery. Mrs. Staats died at her home in Evans on Christmas Day after an illness of several months. A part of the fall she was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. Clayton Parsons, in Ripley, but returned to her Evans home several weeks ago. Her condition which was described as resulting from complications due to her advanced age, gradually grew worse as time went on, and for some time there had been little hope that she would be successful in her fight to regain her health. The following obituary was read at the funeral: Mrs. Rosalie Evans Staats, daughter of Ishmael and Catherine Ensminger Evans, was born at Farmington, Marion county, West Virginia, October 1, 1856 and died December 25, 1939, aged 83 years, 2 months and 24 days. She was the last of the third generation of Evans' in her family and was one of the earliest settlers of the community. She was united in marriage to Elias E. Staats, November 22, 1877 by Rev. Shaw. Her husband died November 6, 1922. A son, Cletus Staats, died several years ago. Mrs. Staats is survived by the following children, Mrs. Flora Peters, Grafton, West Virginia, Mrs. T. Clayton Parsons, Ripley, West Virginia, Mrs. Wade W. King, DeKalb, Illinois and Mrs. A. C. Hibbard, Evans, West Virginia. Mrs. Hibbard and her husband, for the past several years, have very tenderly cared for her mother in her last years. She is survived by one brother, George Evans, Cleveland, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Hunt, Evans, West Virginia and Mrs. Allie Thornton, Rayland, O. The following grandchildren survive her, Charles Peters, Pittsburg, Pa., Howard Peters, Ambridge, Pa., John Peters and Mrs. Virginia Pobinson, Grafton, West Virginia, Staats and Talmage Clayton Parsons, Jr., Ripley, West Virginia and Charles Donald King of DeKalb, Illinois. She is also survived by the following great-grandchildren: Carolyn Jane Parsons, Ripley, West Virginia and Walter Eugene and Charlene Ann Robinson, Grafton, West Virginia. In early girlhood days she was converted and joined the Otterbein United Brethren church where she remained a member for possibly fifty years or more and was one of its most loyal supporters. She had likewise been a subscriber and reader of the Religious Telescop? church paper. Mrs. Staats was a member of the Ripley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Christian woman, a good and helpful neighbor, a mother that will never be forgotten by her daughters and grandchildren and a woman held high in esteem by all who knew her during her long and useful life.
