  <p>Information:                 Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Fairplain Church for Columbus L. Staats, 67, who died at his home there on Sunday following a long illness.  The Rev. Rankin Roach officiated at the service and the burial was in the Casto Cemetery.  Mr. Staats had been critically ill for some time and death had been expected.  He was a retired surveyor and a former school teacher.  He was born in Jackson County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staats.  Surviving are  his wife, Ms. Eva Staats; three daughters, Mrs. M. W. Chancey of Staats Mills, Mrs. W. A. Harpold of St. Albans and Mrs. Albert C. Hall of Fairplain; one son, Romeo Staats of Fairplain; two brothers, Dr. Oshel Staats and Attorney Carter Staats, both of Ripley  and three grandchildren.  (Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection)     </p>
