H. Southall, well known citizen and farmer of Gay, Tuesday morning at 9:45.  His condition had been critical for several days prior to his death.  His wife and children were all at his bedside when the end came.  All that loving hands could do was done, but God's will be done not ours.  On the morning of Jan. 17, 1934, he was stricken by a stroke of paralysis.  It being the third stroke which was the immediate cause of his death.  He was a kind and devoted husband and father, a good citizen and neighbor, honest, sympathetic and helpful towards neighbors and friends in sickness and sorrow.  Interested in the upbuilding of church work.  During his illness he talked of the good revival meetings going on in the community and wished that he could attend.  After his throat and tongue became paralyzed he tried over and over to tell us something  but we could not understand it.  At last, he spoke out loud and clear saying, ""I will speak in the name of the Lord Jehovah, and he will come"".  We know God was with him and gave him power to speak these words.  Often in his whisperings the words pray and preach would be spoken plainly.  James Henry Southall, son of William and Margaret Southall, was born Nov. 4, 1862, died Mar. 20, 1934; age 71 years, 4 months and 16 days.  He was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Pringle of Fairplain Dec. 23, 1891.   To this union were born nine children.  The oldest, Howard W., preceded him in death Sept. 14, 1918, in France during the World war.       He is survived by his widow and eight children-  Holly of Staats Mill, Boyd of Ripley, Rolly of Spencer, Arnal of Gay, Mrs. Bessie Skeen of Kentuck, Mrs. Alma Deem of Belpre, Ohio, Addie and Ora at home;  three brothers, Harvey Southall of Ripley, Early Southall of East Liverpool, Ohio and Richard Southall of Kentuck; one sister, Mrs. Fannie McDonal of Ripley and a host of relatives and friends.  He came from Fairplain to Gay in 1891.  Soon after his marriage he settled upon the farm where he still resided at the time of his death.  Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Corbet Sayre, assisted by Rev. Arthur Harpold.  Burial in the Shinn cemetery at Fairplain.
