Information: Johnie Gay Smith, son of Enoch and Maggie Smith, was born on November 17, 1905, and departed this life July 13, 1945, aged 39 years, 7 months and 27 days.  He was united in marriage to Flossie Ellen Jividen on March 24, 1928, and to his union was born three children, Jerald Gay, Wanda June and Doris Ann; besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn their loss, his father and mother, three brothers, Addie Smith of Elmwood, W. Va., Aggie Smith of Nitro and Hollie Smith of Henderson; also two sisters, Mrs. Clayton Parsons and Mrs. Edgar Hickman of Given and a host of relatives and friends.  Johnie will be missed by all who knew him as he always had a welcome smile and a cheery hello for all.  He was a devoted husband, a loving father, who thought always of the welfare of his loved ones first and himself last.  Friends he had many, enemies he had none.  The funeral services were preached by Rev. Hartzel Bodkin of Rockcastle, assisted by Rev. Roush of Red House.  Interment was made in Mt. Zion cemetery at Rockcastle.
