  <p>Information: RIPLEY - Gertrude Short Smith, 94, of Ripley, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 11, 2011, at her residence.  She was born December 6, 1916 at Logan, West Virginia, daughter of the late William R. and Polly Watkins Short.  She was a lifelong homemaker.  Surviving:  sons, Benjamin F. Smith of Cowen, David Lee Smith of Edinburgh VA; daughters, Mary Frances Frye of Marmet, Helen Walley Harper of Charleston, Dale M. Vannoy of Cross Lanes, Gertrude L. Torres of Ripley, Virginia I. Honaker of Sissonville and Elizabeth A. Hooshangi of Fairfax VA.  She leaves 37 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Smith; daughter, Barbara Jean Smith; and brothers, James, William, Hodge and Daniel Short.  Funeral services were held Saturday, August 13 at 2 p.m. at the Smith family residence, 184 Smith Road (off of Station Camp Road) Ripley.  Interment followed the service at the Smith family cemetery, near the family&#39;s home.  Friends called two hours prior to the service.</p>
