Information: Aley L. Smith, son of William and Miranda Williamson Smith, was born in Pike County, Ky., Feb. 13, 1860, departed this life July 22, 1947, aged 87 years, 5 months and 9 days.  He was united in marriage to Sarah Ellen Lynch and to this union were born the following children:  one son, A. L. Smith Jr. of Ripley; four daughters, Mrs. I. J. Smith and Mrs. E. A. Stewart, both of Evans.  Two daughters preceded him in death, Mrs. E. H. Knopp and Mrs. V. V. Lathey.  Four step-children also survive him:  R. M. Kidd of Ripley, Mary Burchett of Portsmouth, Ohio, Dona Pochard of Columbus, Ohio and Azra Estep of Dunbar.  One brother, James Albert Smith of Shiloh, Ohio survives.  He also is survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The funeral was conducted at the Vail Funeral Home of Ripley on July 25, with Rev. I. J. McCollum of Cottageville officiating.  Interment was made in the Shinn cemetery near Fairplain.
