Information: Helen Elfa Slaughter, daughter of J. H. and Katherine Slaughter, was born in Chicago, Ill, April 8, 1910, and departed this life June 29, 1922.  While apparently enjoying good health, she was stricken with spinal meningites at her home near Cottageville, June 26.  She was taken to the City Hospital at Spencer, but medical aid could not conquer the dreaded disease, and Helen's spirit took its flight to join the blood washed throng in the land of song birds, flowers and sunshine, where the rivers are clear as a crystal and the son of God is the glory of heaven and all mankind will join this heavenly host, who live Godly in Christ Jesus.  Helen was 12 years 2 months and 21 days old and was loved by all who knew her.  Her death was a shock to the whole community.  Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Blessing, text ""The flower fadeth because the spirit of the Lord bloweth on it"" Isaiah 40:7.  Songs: ""Beautiful Isle"" and ""Does Jesus Care""  After services at the home, Sunday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m., the body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Cottageville.  Father, mother, one sister, two grandmothers, one grandfather, three aunts, five uncles, a number of cousins and a host of friends are left to mourn the loss of the precious jewel.  The Lord knoweth them that are His and in making up the jewels the angels stopped in our midst and bore a spirit home to Heaven.
