Obituary Date: 1950-09-01
Information: Woodrow Skeen, 27 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Skeen of Ripley, was killed in an automobile accident on US Rt. 21 near the home of Roy Myers north of Sandyville about 2 o'clock last Saturday morning. Herbert Parsons, Jr., 28 year old son of H. F. Parsons of Given, was injured in the same crash, but not fatally. The car in which the two were riding sideswiped the Myers car which was parked in front of his home and then left the highway and traveled some distance through a field. Parsons was thrown clear of the car before it came to a stop and Skeen was found in the wreckage with a fractured neck and other serious injuries. The accident is believed to have happened around two o'clock Saturday morning. Skeen was brought to the offices of Dr. C. Royall Kessel in Ripley and was pronounced dead on arrival. Parsons was taken to the home of his brother where a physician treated him. The victim was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Skeen. He was a graduate of Ripley High School, served six years in the Navy during World War II and then enrolled in West Virginia University and was a student in the University law school at the time of his death. His father is game protector of Jackson county. Other survivors, in addition to the father and mother, are two sisters, Mrs. Eva Hyre of Los Angeles, California and Miss Virginia Skeen of the Bank of Ripley staff. Funeral services were held from the Ripley EUB Church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. George Thomas officiating and the burial was in the Goshen cemetery at Kentuck. The Parsons Funeral directors were in charge of the arrangements. (McIntyre)
