Information: CLOTHING IGNITES; BURNS ARE FATAL-CLOTHING IS IGNITED WHILE WOMAN STOOD BEFORE FIRE IN HOME - Mrs. Mary Skeen, aged lady of Kentuck and the widow of the late F. P. Skeen, died at her home there at five o'clock Tuesday morning as the result of burns received the previous day when her colothing was ignited as she stood before the open fireplace in the home. Mrs. Skeen arose as usual early Monday morning and dressed. She was standing before the open fireplace when her clothing caught fire and she attempted to smother the flames. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. D. Skeen, who was in an adjoining room, rushed to her rescue. By that time the aged lady was trying to get out of the house. The daughter-in-law grabbed her and smothered out the flames and tore the burned clothing from her body, but she was fatally burned before that could be done. Her son, W. D. Skeen, with whom she lived, was still in bed when her clothing caught fire and he, too, rushed to her rescue but according to reports received here he and his wife were unable to smother the flames and tear the clothes from the aged woman's body before she was fatally burned. While severely burned and suffering greatly from shock she lived until the following morning. Mrs. Skeen, the member of a pioneer family in that section, had spent her life in that community. When her husband died a number of years ago, one of her sons, W. D. Skeen and family moved in with her and bought the home farm and she had since made her home with them. She is survived by the following children, Mrs. M. C. Simmons of Kenna, W. D. Skeen of Kentuck, J. L. Skeen of Charleston, Omer Skeen of Kentuck and Denny Skeen of Charleston. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive. The husband and two children, Mary Skeen and Frank Skeen, preceded her in death. Sattis Simmons, editor of the HERALD, is a grandson. The funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday and burial was in the Skeen cemetery near the home.
