Obituary Date: 1944-01-14
Information: Funeral rites for Joshua W. (Franklin) Skeen, 89 year old retired farmer of Fletcher, were held from the Goshen Baptist Church near Kentuck on Sunday morning at eleven o'clock with Rev. Vairl Winters in charge and burial was in the Skeen cemetery nearby. The aged man died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O'Dell Hamon, in Charleston on Thursday morning. He had been in failing health for some time and death had been expected, friends of the family said. Long a resident of that section of the county, ""Josh"" Skeen, as he was more familiarly known to his thousands of friends and acquaintances, had been one of the county's outstanding citizens, farmer, and stockman, and despite his years continued to be interested in community activities down through the years. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. O'Dell Hamon, and six sons: Hoyt C. Skeen, Della Skeen and Beecher Skeen, all of Charleston, Thomas B. Skeen of Dunbar, J. Mark Skeen and A. C. Skeen of Fletcher.
