Information:      In memory of Sarah C. Simmons, who departed this life March 2nd, 1924, aged 72 years and 1 day.  She was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Maddox, born in Harrison County, Virginia, now West Virginia, March 1st, 1852.  Her parents moved to Jackson County when she was three years old and settled on Grass LIck, where her son, M.C. Simmons now lives.  This county was then mostly all in the woods.  Before leaving Harrison County they secured letters of dismissal from the Broadway Baptish Church and united with the Grass Lick Baptist Church, which had only been organized in 1854.  Here they reared a large family of children, who all became members of the Grass Lick Church except two who died in infancy.  Here Aunt Canna, as she was familiarly known, was converted at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of the Grass Lick Baptish Church by Rev. Jabez Guiger, where she remained a true and honored member until the day of her death.    She was united in marriage to Dr. T.W. Simmons, March 22, 1870.  To this union nine children were born, Mrs. Dora B. Casto, M.C. Simmons, D.W. Simmons, P.P. Simmons, O.O. Simmons, Mrs. Oma L. Johnson and Mrs. Lona L. Chancey.  Two having died in infancy.   Her husband, the late Rev. T.W. Simmons, preceded her to the grave twenty-two years, leaving her the care of the family to which she was very much devoted, always ready to do, anything in her power for their welfare.  She was also very much devoted to her church to which she had so long been a faithful member.  In church affairs her advise was often sought and always found to be worthy.  Her funeral was conducted by Rev. J.W. Garrison on the third day of March, 1924, and her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband to there await the resurrection morn.
