Information: EASTER SUNDAY FISHING OUTING ENDS IN TRAGEDY - A former Ripley and Akron, Ohio barber, Stanley Shinn, was apparently the victim of a drowning Sunday while he was fishing in a pond on his farm on the right fork of Cow Run. Mrs. Vern W. Hunt, who lives on a farm nearby, reportedly heard the 84-year-old man screaming for help, and she and a visitor at the T. E. Sayre farm nearby, Frank Sayre, ran to the scene and pulled the body from the pond. Trooper First Class D. J. Martin and Conservation Officer George Armstrong investigated the drowning. Casto Funeral Home of Evans was called to the scene and moved the body to Jackson General Hospital, where Mr. Shinn was pronounced dead, and later to the funeral home. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the Casto Funeral Home at Evans with the Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery at Mount Alto. Survivors include: wife, Elsie; brother, Ray of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Mrs. Cora Perry of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Lucy Hill of Charleston; one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Roy Russell Shinn, preceded him in death April 12 and was buried Thursday.
