Obituary Date: 1947-11-14
Information: Our mother was born on December 1, 1882, the youngest of the large family of Catherine and Albert Postlewaite in Jackson county. Of this large family there now remains only one brother, A. A. Postlewaite of Cottageville. Death took her from us November 7, 1947, at just a month less than 65 years of age. On September 12, 1904, she was married to Arthur W. Sayre at Pittsburgh. They resided there for a few years and then returned to West Virginia where they lived until 1923 when they moved to Akron. Nine children were born, Derward and Ernest having died in infancy. There remain eight of us, our dear father, Harold, Minor, Willard and Virginia of Akron, Donald of Niagara Falls, N. Y., Olive of Columbus, Ohio, and Mildred of Randolph, Ohio. Eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. We could not begin to express about our wife and mother what is in our hearts today. We only know that she was the perfect wife and mother, designed by God, for serving us. Her love, patience, kindness and strength have brought us through the hard years and the good years. The guiding light to our dear father, to all of us, she was and still shall be, although her physical self will no longer be here. To number her friends would be impossible for any aquaintance became not only a friend but a relative also. Although never a member of any church, mother belonged to the great church of Christian living. Her faith in God was expressed not only by her lips, but also by her deeds, by the way she reared her children. All of us have known God's right way since the cradle, from her teachings and her example. As Dad says, her religion was thinking and doing for others. She enjoyed life to the full not only the material things, but companionship with others and Nature's wonderful world. It comforts us a little to know that her life was full, that we tried to do all we could for her, that she had great pride in us and our families. We feel sure that she hid from us a great deal of suffering she must have endured in recent months. Active until the last moment, she would have desired it no other way. We thank God that she was not required to suffer more. We thank Him also for the great character He gave us for a wife and mother. We feel how inadequate we are to carry further the wonderful qualities He gave us through her. FROM THE JACKSON HERALD-11-14-1947- SAYRE FUNERAL IS HELD AT OTTERBEIN- Funeral services for Mrs. A. W.
