Information: Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Mt. Moriah for Joel Francis Sayre, 74 year old retired farmer, who died at a local hospital Thursday morning.  Rev. Mahoney had charge of the services and the Vail Mortuary made the arrangements.  Mr. Sayre had undergone an operation for the amputation of his left leg on the previous Monday and because of his age and physical condition was unable to recover.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maggie Belle (Parsons) Sayre; a son, Carl of Wheeling; five daughters, Mrs. Mae Cottrill of Vinton, Ohio, Mrs. Bessie Cottrill and Mrs. John Cottrill of Ewington, Ohio, Mrs. W. H. Bourgeois of Ripley and Mrs. Georgia Snodgrass of Akron. 2nd obituary Joel Francis Sayre, youngest son of Joel and Melinda Sayre, was born in Jackson county June 5, 1866, departed this life Sept 5, 1940, age 74 years and three months.  On March 2, 1884 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Belle Parsons.  To this union were born twelve children, six of whom preceded their father in death.
