Information: Garnette E. Sayre, 77, of Marseilles, OH, died Saturday, January 11, 1997 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton, Ohio. He was a retired truck driver (for over 30 years). He formerly owned and operated Sayre Construction, Marseilles, Ohio. He attended Longview United Methodist Church, Jackson Co., WV. He was a WW II Army veteran-served in Germany and France as staff sergeant with 5th Infantry and received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a former Marseilles Village Marshall and served as Mayor of Marseilles for four years. A life member of McVitty VFW Post #1182, Forest, OH. He was born March 17, 1919 in Jackson county, WV, son of the late Harl Sayre and Theodocia Slaughter Sayre. Survivors: wife, Lavetta E. Miller, Marseilles, OH; five sons, Tommy of New Bloomington, OH, Dennis of Harspter, OH, Roger of Marseilles, OH, Robert of Forest, OH, William of Upper Sandusky, OH; two daughters, Shirley Lamb of Marseilles, OH, Mrs. Charles (Candy) Luikart of LaRue, OH; one sister, Hazel Herdman of Jackson county, WV; four deceased brothers, Earl, Beuford, Riley and Valoe; four deceased sisters, Ethel Moore, Zona Donohue, Emily Yeager, Flossie Sayre; 2 grandsons deceased. Also surviving; 12 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchilren, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were January 14, 1997 1:00 p.m. at Shields Funeral Home, Forest, Ohio, with Pastor Ruth Stambach officiating. Burial in Chandler Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, OH.
