Information: Ellen Hartley Sayre was born in Harrison county, Ohio, July 22, 1850, died Sept. 21, 1934, age 84 years, 1 month, 29 days.  On December 24, 1874, she was married to Abijah Sayre and to this union seven children were born.  Her husband and the four older children preceded her in death, namely:  Holly I. Sayre, Stephen S. Sayre, Mrs. Anna Ridenour and Mrs. Josie MIller.  The surviving children are:  Mrs. Lora Smith of Ripley, W. Va., T. E. Sayre of Cottageville, W. Va., and Mrs. Mary Fox of Akron, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, S. A. and H. T. Hartley, both of Cottageville and many other relatives and friends.  She came to Jackson county with her parents when a small child and has since made this her home.  Early in life she was converted and joined the M. E. Church, but in later years moved her membership to the U. B. Church at Antioch where she remained a faithful member. Athough her decling years prevented her attendeing the church services she was always interested in the church work  Even though she has been confined to her room for several months she was very patient and often expressed her desire to go ""Home"".  She was a kind friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed by her many friends.  Funeral services conducted by Rev. E. E. Roush were held at the Antioch Church, after which the remains were taken to the Hill cemetery near Cottageville for burial by the side of her husband.
