Information: The Rev. Armor Ray Sayre, 88, of Evans, died July 28, 1996, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. He was born in Evans, a son of the late John Oliver and Maggie Jane Cain Sayre. He was a lifelong Jackson County resident and a retired United Methodist minister with 29 years of service. His service began in 1948 at churches in the Evans and Cottageville area of Jackson County and concluded with the Claypool United Methodist Church in Man in 1977. He continued to pastor several churches after his retirement and traveled thoughtout the state as an evangelist. Surviving are one son, Armor Dale Sayre of Sandyville; three grandsons, Keith Sayre of Buena Vista, Calif.; Allen D. Sayre of Ripley and Armor D. Sayre Jr. of Evans; three granddaughters, Karen Vessel of Buena Vista, Calif., Theresa D. Christy of Apple Grove, and Vanessa Marie McClung of Sandyville; 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verda Marie Sayre; one son, Gale Furman Sayre; and several brothers and sister. Services 1 p.m Wednesday, Casto Funeral Home, Evans, the Rev. Bobby Woods and Max Spurlock officiating. Burial Longview Cemetery, Evans.
