Information: STATE COMMANDER OF THE G.A.R. ANSWERS THE FINAL SUMMONS - Taps have sounded for W. W. Riley, ere this issue reaches many of the readers, he will have joined that sleep of the community dead near the crest of a swelling slope in the Pine Hill cemetery, where he finds a resting place near the tombs of many who survived the great conflict of '61 and come back home to join friends and spend the remainder of their lives among the West Virginia hills, the same as it was Mr. Riley's lot to do. The end came peacefully to Mr. Riley at his home in Point Pleasant about ten o'clock Monday night after an illness of many months. He had been in very poor health for the past several months and a great portion of the time had been spent in a Gallipolis hospital, although he gained his wish that he die in his own home, and was removed there several days ago, but it was thought at that time that his condition was greatly improved. More than sixty years ago, Mr. Riley, then a boy of sixteen years of age, left his home and friends to join the colors and went through the long years of that conflict. In that struggle, he wore the ""blue"" and no bullet from the opposing forces found him in its mission of destruction and he was spared to live a useful life and to write a large page in the history of Ripley and Jackson county. Mr. Riley was active in the affairs of the Grand Army of the Republic and at the state meeting in Phillipi last May was elected State Commander. On many occasions he attended the national meetings of the soldiers in West Virginia, he was always present. At the time of his death he was 82 years of age and only until recent months, had enjoyed fine health. He was born and reared in Ripley, and for many years was cashier of the Valley Bank, which later became the First National Bank. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Frances Miller and Miss Willia Riley of Jacksonville, Florida, and W. W. Riley, Jr. of Point Pleasant; one granddaughter, Virginia Miller of Jacksonville, also survive him. The funeral will be held at the Epworth church in Ripley this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock.
