Information: Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth (Bessie) Rhodes, 66, daughter of the late ? and Florence Bonnett Casto, of Ripley Route 2, died Tuesday morning, April 9, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Rhodes of Ripley, where she had been since returning from a hospital several weeks ago. She had undergone a serious operation from which she had not recovered. The immediate cause of her death was a stroke which came on Saturday before her passing away. Surviving are her husband, V. M. Rhodes, who she married on April 6, 1902; two sons, Everett Rhodes of Ripley and John Rhodes of Given; two grandchildren, Donald Rhodes of Maryland and Wilma Lee Rhodes of Given; one great-granddaughter, Donnie Marie Rhodes of Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Holland of Minersville, Ohio, Mrs. Inez Casto, Given; brothers, John Casto of Ripley, Clairmont Casto of Evans, Orville Casto of Given, and Clayton Casto of Liberty. She was preceded by one child, Augusta, dying in infancy. Mrs. Casto joined the United Brethren Church at Parchment Chapel at the age of 15 and lived a devoted Christian life to the end. The church and its welfare were uppermost in her mind. She had read the New Testament through twice in the last year and was well on the third reading. The funeral services were conducted at the Fairplain church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Roy McCoy of Letart and Rev. Delbert F. Kelbaugh of Fairplain. Burial was in the Webster cemetery on the hill between Given and Fairplain by the side of her father and mother with Vail mortuary in charge.
