Information: Prudence Virginia Rhodes was born November 10, 1836 on Spring creek, near Spencer, Roane county, W. Va. Her father was John R. Casto. He died when she was four years old. Her mother moved to what is called the Alf Walters farm. There she was married to Doctor Daniel Rhodes in 1852, at the age of 16 years. To this union were born twelve children, eight girls and four boys, eight of whom, six girls and two boys, survive her. Her husband preceded her five years. She departed this life December 7, 1909, aged 73 years and 27 days. She joined the U. B. church when 25 years old and lived a faithful member 'til death. She was one of the charter members of the Oak Hill U. B. class and during her husband's life their home was the home of the itinerant preacher. She was a christian, always cheerful and happy. She was afflicted for several months but bore it with christian fortitute and frequently expressed a desire to go over to the other side. She died in great peace and went over to join the church in heaven. Her remains were buried beside her husband in the Oak Hill cemetery. T. H. Rymer
