Death Notice:

Obituary Date: 1913-12-04

Information: Mary Ann Leonard Rhodes, widow of Daniel D. Rhodes, was born in Portsmouth, O., Sept. 22, 1825, departed this life at her home in Cottageville, W. Va., Nov. 30, 1913, aged 88 years 2 months and 8 days.  She was united in marriage to Daniel D. Rhodes Feb. 18, 1844.  To this union were born six children, three dying in childhood.  The surviving children are Daniel W. Rhodes, Mrs. H. C. Fleming and Mrs. B. E. Harrison. She removed with her husband and family from Portsmouth to Cottageville April 1st 1858 (nor sure of year), where she continued to reside until her death.  Her home was always open to relatives and friends, who always found a hearty welcome and a generous hospitality.  One of her neices, on hearing of her serious illness truthfully exclaimed, ""Poor soul, she has been a mother to us all"".  The poor and needy were never turned away empty handed or hungry.  The sick were objects of her tender care and solicitude.  In fact her life was full of self sacrifice and devotion to the welfare and comfort of others. She loved her home and enjoyed its associations, remarking to the writer in her last lucid moments, ""This has been a dear old home to me."" We bury her out of sight today with the confident assurance that in that day when the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, and before whom shall be gathered all nations, she will be on the right hand of the King and shall hear ther welcome words.""Come ye blessed of my Father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  For I was hungered and ye gave me meat.  I was thirsty and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger and ye took me in; naked and ye clothed me; I was sick and ye visited me.  Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me.""   (from Ada Ruth Sayre obituary collection-from microfilm-difficult to read)
