Information: John Lawill Rhodes, son of John H. Rhodes and Helen (Hood) Rhodes, died January 27th, 1928, age 2 years, 8 months and 14 days. The sudden taking off of Little John was an awful blow to his parents and all his other relatives and friends and they feel that his loss is almost unbearable. He was an unusually bright little fellow and had arrived at an age to be interesting. The whole communtiy was concerned in his case and evinced a deep interest in it by doing what they could for the little sufferer. The funeral was conducted by Rev. F. V. Arnett on Sunday afternoon in the presence of practically the entire community and he was laid to rest in the Cottageville cemetery to await the coming of the Savior. CHILD SERIOUSLY BURNED - John Junior, the little three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rhodes of Cottageville, was seriously burned Monday afternoon about one o'clock by scalding water into which he fell while his mother was in an adjoining room in the home. The physicians in the case are hopeful that he may recover, but the exact extent of the burns have not been determinded and the child appears to be suffering greatly. His hips, back and legs are said to have been burned badly. The child was playing in a room where some hot water had just been put into a tub and the father had stepped outside the house to get some cold water. The mother was in an adjoining room and when she heard the screams of the child she rushed to its rescue, but it had fallen backwards into the tub and was already badly scalded. Dr. Harrison was immediately summoned and was able to ease the pain from the burns. Relatives of Mrs. Rhodes, who before her marriage was Miss Helen Hood, were called there Monday evening.
