Information: RETIRED MAN DIES SUDDENLY - John A. Rhodes, 86 year old retired farmer and stone mason, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home at Mt. Olive near Ripley last Wednesday.  He lived only about five minutes after being stricken, members of the family said.  He was born on April 19, 1870, near  Gay, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Rhodes who were pioneer residents in that section of Jackson county.  He spent most of his life in that community and recently moved to the home near Ripley.  He was a member of the E.U.B. church at Vista and was a man who was highly respected and who was known far beyond the confines of the county for his fine work in stone masonry.  On September 2, 1894 he married Miss America Price, who survives with the following children:  two sons, Oshel and Oval Rhodes, both of Parkersburg; and five daughters, Miss Verda Rhodes, at home, Mrs. Elizabeth West of Gay, Mrs. Folie Harpold of Ripley, Mrs. Owens Casto of Staats Mill and Mrs. Holly Anderson of Gay.  Funeral services were held from the Aplin church on Friday and the burial was in the Aplin cemetery at Gay.
