Obituary Date: 1936-06-26
Information: Mrs. Emma E. Rhodes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Litton, was born October 1, 1868 and departed this life on May 30, 1936, aged 67 years, 7 months and 29 days. She was united in marriage to William P. Rhodes on July 16, 1885 and to this union nine children were born, four sons, and five daughters. She was converted and joined the M. E. church, South, at Briscoe, in early childhood but some years later moved her membership to the Gay U. B. church and was faithful until her death. She bore her long affliction with patience and Christian fortitude, expressing at different times her trust in the Lord and often telling her friends she was ready to go. She leaves to mourn their loss, four sons and two daughters, her husband and three daughters having preceded her in death several years ago. Besides her children, 12 grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters and a host of relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services were conducted in the Gay United Brethren church by Rev. J. F. Cunningham, assisted by Rev. Sayre. The text for the occasion was I Cor. 15: 55-57. After a brief discourse her body was laid to rest in the Evans cemetery at Gay to await the resurrection morn.
