Obituary Date: 1901-02-15

Information: TWO CHILDREN--AND THE HOUSE OF ROBERT RAY AND WIFE BURNED UP.   Sorrow has laid a heavy hand on Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray of Kentuck, two of their children having been burned to death and their house and household goods having been destroyed by fire at noon, Wednesday.   Particulars are not at hand, but enough is known to say that Mr. Ray and family resided in a double log house built by the aged Frank Skeen and by him occupied many years.  Mr. Ray was absent at his father's, Mr. J. M. Ray, at Elmwood, Mason county, Mrs. Skeen was washing in one end of the house and the children occupying the other, when the fire broke out.   The worthy parents had four children, a boy and three girls.  The boy was between six and seven years old.  He and the youngest, a babe of four months, it was that were incinerated.  The skeleton of the little boy was recovered from the debris, but the bones of the little one were probably reduced by the heat to ashes.   (from the WV Cemetery Preservation Website--shows Margaret age 5, and William age 8, are buried in the Poling-Cleek cemetery at Kentuck with date of death, February 13, 1901.)
