Information:      RAY RESOURCES OFFICIAL CLAIMED.  Prominent Ripley businessman Rex Calvin Ray, 56, of 10 Vail Drive, died Friday afternoon in Jackson General Hospital after a long illness.  A leader in the gas and oil industry in West Virginia, Mr. Ray and his brother, James were the founders of Ray Brothers Drilling Company which became incorporated into Ray Drilling Corporation Resources, a division of an international corporation.  He served as executive vice-president of that corporation until his retirement due to ill health.  Mr. Ray served on the board of directors of the National Bank of Commerce in Charleston and the board of directors of Jackson General Hospital in Ripley.  He was a member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16 A.F. and A.M. Scottish Rite Bodies, 32nd degree Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Order of Jesters, Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity, and the College of Hard Knocks.  He was a World War II veteran.  Mr. Ray was born May 11, 1924 at Hamlin, son of the late Guy B.and Gladys Lee Ray.  Survivors include his wife, Mary E. (Staats) Ray, Ripley; three sons, James E. Ray, Fort Worth, Texas, John B. Ray, Ripley, Rex Cecil Ray, Charleston; six grandchildren, James E. Ray, II, Guy Lee Ray, Jami Beth Ray, Melissa D. Ray and Zachary W. Ray, all of Ripley; two step-grandchildren, Holly Hill and Kin Roscoe, Texas.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Calvary United Methodist Church, under the direction of Vail Funeral Home, with Rev. Basil Hensley, Rev. William Eaton, and Rev. Ronald Brooks officiating.  Burial was in Fairplain Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.
