Obituary Date: 1935-03-22

Information: Funeral services for F. S. Ranson, 62 year old Liberty merchant, who died suddenly last Wednesday morning, were held at the Emma Chapel church with a large crowd in attendence.  Rev. J. W. Garrison preached the funeral.  Mr. Ranson arose as usual last Wednesday morning and went to his store after having breakfast. He was found dead in his chair a few minutes later.  He had been suffering heart attacks recently and physicians say that a severe attack caused his death.  He had been engaged in the mercantile business there for many years and was widely known both in Jackson and Putnam counties and had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who will be grieved to learn of his death.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Warner Ranson; two sons, T. R. and Charles Ranson, both of Liberty; two daughters, Misses Frances and Garnet Ranson, also of Liberty; five brothers, Gillespie, Frank and Benjamin Ranson of Dunbar; Wirt Ranson of Liberty and Roy Ranson of Nitro; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Parkins of Paradise; Mrs. Verta Fisher of Charleston; and Mrs. J. V. Lee of Red House.  Mr. Ranson was one of the progressive county merchants of this section of the state and his store at Liberty was known as one of the better country stores in the state.  [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre collection]
