Information: Funeral services for William James Rand, aged 70, former resident of this county, who died at the home of his sister, Mrs. E. C. Simpson, at Pikeville, Kentucky, on Wednesday, August 13, were conducted at the Cottageville Methodist church Friday by Rev. W. I. Fiber, pastor of the church.  Burial was at Cottageville.  Mr. Rand was born January 29, 1871, at Cottageville, a son of Kinsey and Lavina Rand.  He was married to Martha Jacobs, and to this union was born one child, Helen Webster, now the wife of C. R. Stancliffe, of Los Angeles, Calirornia.  A member of the Methodist church since his early youth, he was a Mason, and was a well known and highly respected resident of the Cottageville section.  For the past six years he had been residing with his sister in Kentucky, where death occured after a long illness.  He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Stancliffe, of Los Angeles, California; one brother, A. C. Rand, of Cottageville; two sisters, Mrs. Delpha Tennant of Ravenswood and Mrs. Alice Simpson of Pikeville, Kentucky.  His wife, Martha Rand, died October 29, 1925.  [from the Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
