Information: RIPLEY - Emory Fred Ramsey passed away September 28, 2011 at Braley Care Home in Hurricane following an extended illness.  Fred was born November 19, 1917.  He was an Alzheimer's patient.  Fred is a native of Bentree, Clay County.  He grew up loving to hunt and fish.  His passion for fishing continued throughout his life.  Fred was self-sufficient at an early age, leaving home to finish high school, earn a BS in engineering from West Virginia University.  He was employed to manage oil, gas, and coal by the Yawkey family.  Fred was also a businessman who founded Polythane Inc.  He held several patents of items used in his areas of expertise.  Fred is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Strong during the Pacific action of WWII.  He was part of the occupying force in Japan following the war.  His memories of the war and the men with whom he served stayed with him well into the progression of his disease.     Funeral rites were held Saturday, October 1, at 1 pm at Waybright Funeral Home with Father Arok officiating.  Interment followed at Jackson Memory Gardens, Cottageville, with military graveside rites by American Legion  Post 107, Ripley.  Fred is survived by his loving spouse of 27 years, Maxine Landfried Ramsey; ten children and their spouses, Fred and Mary, Robert and Bonnie, Linda Ramsey, Jack and Robin, Mary and Tom Fogarty, Mark and Cindy, Jim and Diane Landfried, Sue and Tim McClain, Linda and Jeff Posten, and Brenda and Jack Marcum.  He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Friends called Friday from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.  The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Braley Care Home and to Charleston Hospice.  Their love and care were invaluable.
