Information: FAIRPLAIN - Clifford Eugene ""Gene"" Raines, 68, of Grasslick, Fairplain, WV, died suddenly at home on Thursday, April 8, 2005.  He was comforted by his wife, Patti, at the time of the passing.  Gene was born in Kenna on August 29, 1936, the eldest son of the late Hobert L. Raines and Audra ""Belle"" Cleek Raines of Kenna.  He was raised in Kenna and married his wife Patricia Casto Raines on December 20, 1955.  They had looked forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming December.  Gene was an avid hunter, fisherman, camping enthusiast and friend.  He had worked construction most of his life, working for Foster and Creighton, WV Department of Highways, and had retired from Rover Construction Company, St. Albans in 1998.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 132.  Everyone who knew him enjoyed his wit and sense of humor and although he may have met people he did not know, he did not leave them a stranger.  Gene leaves behing a wife, Patricia ""Patti""; daughter, Gina Raines Martin; and a granddaughter, Alexes ""Lexi"" Martin.  His presence will be felt as the loving husband, father and ""Papaw"" that he was to the three ""lady loves"" of his life.  He also leaves behind to mourn his passing, his mother, Belle Raines of Kenna; eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, Glenis Boyce (Cecil) of Kenna, Paul Raines (Jo Ann) of Ripley, Patty Wilson (Harvey) of Parkersburg, Carrie Dado (Joe) of Columbus, OH, Dorothy Hodges (Jim) of Kenna, David Raines (Louise) of Kenna, Dannie Raines (Linda) of Kenna and Karen Rhodes (Jerry) of Ripley.  He was also loved by his brother and sisters-in-law with whom he shared much of his life, humor and wisdom, Robert ""Bob"" Casto (Carolyn) of Ripley, Janet Hayes (Fran) of Bear, DE, and Cindy Casto Thomas of Millwood.  Gene also leaves many nieces and nephews who so affectionately called him ""Uncle Gene"", as they loved him so very much in life, they will find joy in all their wonderful memories.  The impact of such a fine, honest, honorable man will help shape the lives of all those who loved him.  He was preceded in death by his father and his mother and father-in-law, Harl and Virginia Casto.  Gene carried many titles, he was a thoughtful son, a loving husband, a proud father, a doting grandfather, a loyal brother, a friend to many and his loss will be great for those who knew and loved him most.  A funeral service was conducted Monday, April 11, 2005, at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home with Brother John Gunther officiating.  Burial was in the Fairplain Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gene's memory to Fairplain Cemetery, 119 Highlawn Drive, Ripley, WV 25271.
