Information: Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Fairplain for George W. Pfost, pioneer merchant of that place, who died at his home Saturday evening at 5:45 o'clock after a short illness of heart disease.  Mr. Pfost was 84 years old at the time of his death.  Mr. Pfost was born Jan. 8, 1857 on Grasslick, near Fairplain, a son of Francis Marion and Cloah Pfost.  Growing to manhood on his father's farm, he entered the mercantile business at Fairplain in 1882, in which capacity he served his community for many years.  For some time, Mr. Pfost had been living in retirement at his home at Fairplain.  He suffered a decline in health about two months ago but he had been bedfast only for the last two weeks.  Early in life, he was united in marriage with Joannah Fisher.  To this union seven children were born.  The wife and a daughter, Mrs. Grover Winter, preceded him in death.  Later in life, Mr. Pfost married Emma Reynolds, who survives.  The surviving children are:  Mr. R. M. Bachtel, of Ravenswood, Mrs. B. F. Staats of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. John H. Greene of Williamson, Mrs. Roy Shamblen of Ripley, Mrs. Sam Pierson, of Kenna, and F. P. M. Pfost, of Ripley.  One sister, Alice Pfost of Ripley, also survives.  Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at Kenna with Rev. John J. Loudin, pastor of the Ripley Methodist church officiating, assisted by Rev. L. R. Mahoney.  Interment was at the Fairview cemetery. [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
