Information: Shirley S. Petty, 94, of Belleville, one of West Virginia's last surviving veterans of World War I, died June 28, 1988, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.  He was bonr in Palm Creek, WV, a son of the late Irvin and Emily C. Milhoan Petty.  He attended the Belleville United Methodist Church and the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War I, a member and commander of Barracks No. 456 World War I Veterans, a member and past state commander of World War I Veterans, and was a life-member of the Parkersburg VFW Post 1212.  He was a life-member of the Parkersburg Chapter of the DAV and the Ravenswood Abel's Rayburn American Legion Post 1118.  He was an employee of the B & O Railroad for 10 years and served as assistant postmaster and mail carrier at Belleville for many years.  He owned and operated Petty's General Store, Belleville.  He is survived by two sons, Donald Ray Petty of Parkersburg and Robert C. Petty of Washington, WV; one daughter, Norma Irene Petty of Belleville; two grandsons, David Petty of Parkersburg and Hans Mario Petty of Washington, WV; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Kathryn Anderson Petty in 1984; five brothers and four sisters.  Services were held Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Fred Lowry and the Rev. Clay Sloan officiating.  Burial was in Ravenswood Cemetery with military rites.
