Information: James A. Payne, aged Staats Mills farmer, died at his home there last Saturday following a long illness.  He was well known in that section of the county where he spent many years of his life.  The funeral services were held Sunday and burial was in the cemetery there.  A large crowd was present for the last rites.      James A. Payne was born November 23, 1854 and died October 10, 1936, aged 81 years, 10 months and 17 days.  He was united in marriage to Susan R. Young on March 29, 1893.  To this union was born four children, Mrs. Beulah Sheets, of Harrisonville, Ohio, T. A. Payne, of Gay, Glenda Hite, of Charleston, and Warren Payne, of Gay.  In the earlier years of his life he united with the Presbyterian church in Ohio, and later, after moving to West Virginia, he united with the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a kind and loving father.  [Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection]
