Information: Homer Lakin PAYNE                  Homer Lakin PAYNE, 31 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore PAYNE of Staats Mills, was instantly killed last Thursday night when an automobile in which he was riding went over an embankment at Leatherwood in Poca District, Kanawha County.  PAYNE, who had been a driller in the gas fields in this area of the state, had been working on a well in that section of Kanawha County recently.               The body was brought to the Vail Mortuary in Ripley and the funeral service was held there Sunday afternoon with Rev. Arthur LAYMAN of the Ripley UB Church in charge and the body was taken to the SOUTHALL Cemetery near Fairplain for burial.  Mr. PAYNE was a veteran of WW II and for some time had been employed by the Mays Drilling Company.                Homer Lakin PAYNE was born March 5, 1917 and died November 6, 1947, aged 30 years, 8 months and 1 day.  He is  survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore PAYNE of Gay.  Other survivors include two brothers and four sisters, Rollin PAYNE of Ripley, Nelson PAYNE at home, Mrs. Harold WALKER of Ripley, Mrs. Junior TOLLEY of Glasgow, and Jessie and Janet, at home.  (From the Betty Kessel McIntyre Obituary Collection)
