Information: Morley Q Parsons, 82, of Ripley, WV died Saturday, November 4, 2000 at Eldercare of West Virginia, Ripley, following a long illness.  He was born July 20, 1918 at Fairplain, WV, the son of the late Okey and Frankie Shamblin Parsons.  He was the first Golden Horseshoe winner from Jackson County in 1931 and a graduate of Ripley High School Class of 1935.  He earned a B. S. degree from Morris Harvey College and a Masters in Secondary Education from Marshall University.  He attended Cornell University for Naval Training.  He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge #16, Eastern Star Chapter 17 and American Legion Post 106.  He was a retired school teacher and served as Principal at Ripley High School for nine years and Gilmore High School for two years.  He served as the President of the Classroom Teachers Association and headed the polio drive in Jackson County for many years. He was a very active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for 50 years, having taught the Silver Band Class and the Otterbein Class. He was the first president of the Calvary United Methodist Men. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pauline Schoonover Parsons; a son, Ralph Parsons of Ripley, WV; a daughter Janet Parsons Ball of Woodstock, GA; three grandchildren, Carrie Ball of Woodstock, GA, Julie Henderson of Los Angeles, CA and Taren Parsons of Ripley, WV and one great-grandson, Jeffrey Tyler Henderson.  Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, WV with Reverend Charles Hicks officiating.  Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery, Given, WV.  Friends called Monday November 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to service at the Calvary United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 205 Court Street, Ripley, WV 25271.  Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, WV was in charge of arrangements.
