Information: Longtime Jackson County educator, Marion Monroe Parsons, 80, of Main Street, Evans, died Friday on his farm when a tree limb fell on him. He was born in Belgrove, a son of the late Albert Newton and Anna Liza Fields Parsons. He was a head elder of the Ripley Seventh Day Adventist Church, was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a 41-year educator in Jackson County. He was a principal for 23 years and a substitute for eight years. He was a member of the West Virginia Education Association. He received his bachelor's degree from Morris Harvey College in elementary education and his master's degree from Marshall University. He was past president of Evans Gas Co. and was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Thomas Parsons; daughters, Claudette Shaver of Evans, Colleen Barrow of College Dale, Tenn., Sharon Adams of Jefferson, Texas, Kay Geach of Mapleton, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services were Monday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with Elder John Oddie officiating. Burial was in Otterbein Cemetery near Evans.
