Information: Marion Ethlyn Goodman Parsons, 91, of Ripley, WV, died Friday, August 6, 1999 at the Medical Center of the Southwest in Lafayette, Louisiana following a short illness. Marion was born April 9, 1908 in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Clarence Marion and Edna May Vollmer Goodman. Mrs. Parsons taught Home Economics at Ripley High School, she also taught at Gilmore High School and retired from the Jackson County School System with 29 years of service. Marion was a graduate of West Virginia University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Soriety. Later in life she was very active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority. Mrs. Parsons was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church where she was active in the Friendship Circle and United Methodist Women. As a member of the GFWC Women's Club of Ripley, Marion helped in the founding of the Cedar Lakes Conference Center, the WV Mountain State Arts&Crafts Fair, and was instrumental in the construction of the Craft House. Mrs. Parsons worked with the Girl Scouts, 4-H and was a member of A.A.R.P. and the American Red Cross where she helped roll bandages for World War II Soldiers. Marion is survived by a daughter, Ethlyn Parsons of Ripley, WV; a brother John V. Goodman of Pittsburgh, PA; also survived by four grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick W.D. Parsons and a son, F.W.D. ""Sunny"" Parsons, II. Services were held Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at Epworth United Methodish Church, Ripley, with Dr. Ken Krimmel officating. Burial at the Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley, WV. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials made to Epworth United Church Kitchen Fund, 299 North Street, Ripley, WV 25271, or Jackson County Jr. Fair, Parsons Family Award, P.O. Box 662, Ripley, WV 25271. Parsons-Waybright Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
