Obituary Date: 1935-10-08
Information: Louis Franklin Parsons, the third child of Alexis Fink and Phoebe Casto Parsons, was born October 6, 1853, on Thirteen Mile Creek, near Rockcastle. He died at the home of his son, Glen L. Parsons, in Ripley, West Virginia, on October 8, 1935, being 82 years and two days old at his death. He was united in marriage with Sarah Francis Grant on August 17, 1874, the wife being a native of South Webster, Ohio. They established their home on Parchment Creek, near Foster Chapel, in 1876, where they became prominent citizens of the community for almost half a century. To this union was born two sons, Kenneth G. Parsons, who died July 2, 1910, and Glen L. Parsons of Ripley, with whom he has made his home since the death of his wife on March 17, 1915. Mr. Parsons was one of the good farmers of Jackson county, who helped to make the good county what is is today. He was an active participant in all worthwhile affairs of his vicinity and was always to be found on the side of the right. Best of all, in early life he professed Christianity and was always a leader in his church. He was one of the leaders and aided substantially in the erection of the present church edifice which was dedicated in 1887. It can also be said that he was one of its faithful members and attendants at its services. His faith in his God continued in his last illness and was attested to be his words of praise and trying to sing some of the great religious hymns. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glen L. Parsons, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. K.C. Parsons of Evans, and the following grandchildren, Adrian L. Parsons, Franklin Parsons, Francis Jane Parsons, all of Ripley, and Mrs John Johnson of Charleston, W.Va., a daughter the late Kenneth G. Parsons. Also two great grand-children, Lura and Caroline Johnson. He was one of a family of fourteen children, of whom the following sister and brothers survive him: Mrs. Susan Ellison,of Ripley, A.L. Parsons, of Parkersburg, L.M. and O.J. Parsons of Ripley, and O.D. Parsons of Akron, Ohio. For the last few years his son and the daughter-in-law with whom he resided have tenderly cared for him. In his last illness, which lasted but a few days, they were constantly trying to help him and comfort him in every way that human hands could do, but the Master said come to that heavenly home prepared as a reward for his good life and deeds and his soul passed on. We are sure that Uncle Lews will be one of the first ones on that evergreen shore to welcome this good son and daughter-in-law for their faithfulness and clasp the hand of many others his life and influence has been a guide and benediction to. We know it is sad to his immediate family and host of friends to give him up, but it is God's will to be done and not ours.
