Information: Larry Gordon Parsons, 30, died Tuesday, October 24, 1972, at the Jackson General Hospital following a long illness. A resident of Marshall, he was born October 19, 1942, a son of Kenna Gordon and Iva McGrew Parsons. He was a member of the Ripley High School Class of 1960. He was an outstanding three sport athlete at Ripley High School having played halfback in football and was pitcher in baseball and a guard in basketball. He was also an active student in the social life of the school as a member of the Science Club, Yearbook staff, Viking Press, Bible Club and Varsity Club. He was employed for a time by the Modern Woodmen Insurance Company. Mr. Parsons first became ill on November 19, 1966. As a result of this illness, the following years were filled with successive admissions to various hospitals for extended stays plus numerous operations. The spirit with which he excelled in sports carried him through his six years of illness and suffering. He maintained his Christian faith and witness to the end. Survivors include his parens, Kenna Gordon and Iva McGrew Parsons of Marshall; daughters, Christina and Stephanie; son, Larry Gordon Jr.; brothers, Kenny D. of Columbus, Ohio, and Donnie of Little Creek; grandmothers, Forest Jane McGrew of Marshall and Rose Parsons of Little Creek. Service will be held at the Mill Creek Baptist Church at Frozen Camp, Friday, October 27, at 11 p.m. Burial will be in the Frozen Camp Cemetery behind the church. The body will be brought to the church one hour before the funeral service. Friends may also call at the Vail Funeral Home.
