Information: Harry H. Parsons, 82, of Ripley, died Monday, November 11, 2002, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston WV.  He was born December 1, 1919, on the family farm at Frozen Camp WV, son of the late Homer H. and Eula Board Parsons.  He graduated from Ripley High School in 1938, received his BS degree from West Virginia University in 1942, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and received his orders to report to active military duty, was a four year ROTC member and a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  He served four years in World War II rising to the rank of Captain.  During this period he served in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart.  Upon returning to Ripley after WW II, he worked for Pinnell and Pfost Lumber Company and was a member of the local Army Reserve Unit.  In 1951, he was recalled to active duty for the Korean War where he served two additional years.  He then served 12 years as office mgr. for AEP's Phillip Sporn Mining Operations in New Haven WV.  He was a retired Ripley businessman where he owned and operated the Western Auto Store for 20 years.      He was active with the Ripley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 103.  He served the City of Ripley as a member of the City Council, elected City Recorder for several terms.  He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and was also a member of the WVU Alumni Association and the Greenhills Country Club.      He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Pfost Parsons of Ripley; son, Greg Parsons and wife Betty of Ripley; daughter, Dona (Dede) Saffer of Hillsboro WV; son, Pat Parsons and wife Debora Mattingly of Charleston; sister, Dorothy Hamon of St. Albans; grandchildren, Chip Parsons of San Diego CA, Mike Parsons of Charlottesville VA, Matt Parsons of Lexington KY, Casey Parsons of Duluth GA, Bernie Parsons of Ripley; step-grandson, Garret Stearns of Ripley, Patrick Saffer of Morgantown, Shannon Saffer of Hillsboro, Nathan Parsons of Charleston; and severl nieces and nephews.  In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Casto and Anita Kessel; and one brother, Ernest Parsons.      Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, November 13) at Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley, with Rev. Dr. Ken Krimmel officiating, with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.  Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at Epworth United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund.  Vail Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of arrangements.
