Information: Fred L. Ables, 78, of Williamstown, died at Marietta Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon of an extended illness. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late John and Alice Anderson Abels. Until his retirement, Mr. Abels was a salesman for H. P. Dils and Co. for 36 years. A veteran of WW I, he saw action in France. He was a member of St. Andrew's UM Church, Mt. Olivet Lodge No. 3 A.F. and A.M., American Legion Post No. 15, VFW No. 1212, BPOE No. 198, American Legion Post No. 195, Williamstown and United Commercial Travelers. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert Goerfler, of Williamstown, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Robert Pitthan, of Ravenswood; a brother, Elliott B. Abels of Parkersburg; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Dawkins Abels, five sisters and four brothers. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shaver and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Vogel officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today.
