Information:                 Sutton Palmer, 49, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Palmer of Sandyville, was fatally injured Sunday morning when an automobile he was driving skidded on an icy bridge and plunged down an embankment at Kanawha Station on State Rt. 47, nine miles southeast of Parkersburg.  Mr. Palmer, who was formerly a school teacher in this county, was secretary of the W. W. Smith Hardware Company in Parkersburg, a position he had held for a number of years.  State Trooper H. E. Martin, who investigated the accident, said Palmer’s son, James, 15, and Guy Freed were slightly injured when the 1947 Chevrolet sedan went over the embankment and overturned at least twice.  Mr. Palmer died in Camden Clark Hospital about two hours after the accident.  He was born in Wetzel County, the son of Grant and Ida Palmer, both now living at Sandyville.                 He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Clara Balderson Palmer, and three children, Mrs. Betty L. Snider of Parkersburg, Robert Bruce Palmer, a student at West Virginia University, and James Edward Palmer at home.  Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters:  Joe and Harry of Parkersburg, Roy of Canelton, WV, Elzie, Ray and Lindsey of Sandyville, Mrs. Zora Kittle, Mrs. Louise Hutchinson, Mrs. Virginia Bayles and Flossie Palmer, all of Sandyville, Lysander Palmer in the US Army and Mrs. Pauline Sommerville of Palestine.  (Betty Kessel McIntyre obit collection)
