Information: O. J. MORRISON, JR. DIES IN COLUMBUS- Manager of Columbus, Ohio Morrison Store Dies After Brief Illness; Funeral in Charleston Friday - Okey Johnson Morrison, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Morrison of Charleston, W. Va., died in Columbus on May 20, 1931. He was born at Ripley, W. Va on January 7, 1905. He was 26 years old last January. He moved to Charleston twenty-one years ago. He graduated from high school and from the state university at Morgantown in 1927. He was an active athlete, being on the football team and captain of the track team, where he held the state record in both high and low hurdles. After graduating from Morgantown, he was connected with his father' s store in Charleston for one year. In 1928 he planned and opened up the store in Fairmont, a year later, another one at Grafton. At these stores he was general manager and treasurer. In February 1931, he planned the Columbus store at 150 North High street. While buying merchandise for this store, he contracted influenza in New York City on March 27th, the day before the Columbus store was opened. He was taken to White Cross Hospital where his illness proved fatal. When young he joined the United Brethren church at Charleston, W. Va., and later transferred his membership to the First Methodist church of Charleston. When he went to Fairmont to take charge of the Fairmont store he took up his church activities in the First M. E. church at Fairmont. He was active in all church affairs and was chairman of the board of stewards. He was stockholder and director of Morrison's stores in West Virginia and general manager, stockholder and secretary of the Columbus store. On February 8, 1931, in the First M. E. church at Fairmont, he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Berg, daughter of Mrs. Jessie Berg, Point Marion, Pa. They had taken up their residence at 2075 Fairfax Road, Columbus, Ohio. The remains were taken to Charleston, W. Va. and the funeral was held at the parents' residence on Quarrier street, Friday, May 22nd, at 2 o'clock and interment was made in Sunset Memorial Park. The O. J. Morrison stores throughout West Virginia and at Columbus, Ohio, were closed all day Friday on account of the funeral at Charleston.
